Frequently Asked Questions

  • The timeline depends on the service level. A Story Capture package can generally be done in less than a month, while most other projects are completed within 2-4 months. Rush services are available at an additional charge.

  • Virtual interviews make geography irrelevant. I can work with families spread across continents, bringing together relatives who haven't shared stories in years. For families in Chicago, I'm also happy to conduct interviews in person when that feels more comfortable or meaningful. In specific circumstances, I may also be able to travel to other locations depending on your family's needs.

  • No problem at all! It's common for families to discover they want to capture more stories once we begin the process. We can easily adjust your package at any point, and any work already completed will be credited toward your new selection. I want to make sure you end up with exactly the right level of storytelling for your family.

  • Once people understand the purpose and see how respectfully stories are handled, they generally become eager participants. I'm experienced in making interview subjects comfortable. That said, at the end of the day, these are their stories to share and it’s important to respect their wishes. And just because they don’t want to share right now, doesn’t mean they won’t change their mind in the future.

  • As someone who grew up in a Jewish family with deep roots in the community, I have a natural understanding of Jewish traditions, cultural nuances, and historical experiences. My genealogical work has focused extensively on Jewish families, tracing migrations across Europe and to North America, understanding the impact of historical events on family stories, and navigating the unique challenges of Jewish genealogical research. I bring both personal connection and professional expertise to preserving Jewish family legacies.

  • Absolutely. While I have particular expertise in Jewish life, cultural traditions, and family stories, I work with families of all backgrounds who want to preserve their unique legacies. Every family has its own rich history, cultural traditions, and meaningful stories that deserve to be captured and preserved. My skills as an interviewer, storyteller, and genealogical researcher translate easily to families from any heritage or background.

  • Definitely. As the granddaughter of four Holocaust survivors, I grew up surrounded by stories of survival and family members who perished. I have experience working sensitively with survivor testimonies and understanding the historical context that makes the preservation of these stories so essential.

  • I use a mix of archives, databases, and historical records to trace your family’s lineage, verifying every detail along the way. Depending on your background, research may include immigration files, census records, and synagogue or parish registers. The result is a clear, reliable family tree and the supporting documents that bring your ancestry to life.

  • Part of my genealogical expertise involves helping families discover documents and potentially photos they didn't know existed. I can work with whatever materials you have, from extensive family albums to just a few treasured keepsakes. When personal photographs are limited or unavailable, historical photographs from the same time period and locations can provide valuable visual context that brings your family's stories to life and helps readers connect with the world they experienced.

  • That’s a wonderful starting point. I build on the work you already have, reviewing it for accuracy and expanding it with new discoveries. Since archives and databases are constantly digitized and updated, it’s often possible to uncover records that weren’t available when your original research was done. The result is a refreshed, more complete family tree that honors your earlier work while adding valuable new layers.
